This pre-conference, in conjunction with the 2018 National Aging and Law Conference (NALC), provides the practical tools you need to deliver quality services to older adults.
This interactive training is divided into three sections: Intake, Screening & Referrals (Issue Spotting); Interviewing; and Legal Ethics When Counseling Clients with Diminished Capacity. Each session will provide relevant legal information, practical tips, and include interactive activities.
The first session will provide guidance for recognizing legal issues faced by older adults including health insurance issues, abuse and exploitation, and consumer matters. The second session will teach you skills to successfully interview older clients, including information on providing trauma-informed advocacy and accessibility considerations. The final session will provide detailed information on capacity concerns, focusing on capacity assessments and ethical responsibility.
This pre-conference is designed for new attorneys or experienced attorneys who are new to working with older adults, and non-attorney advocates.
