Program Overview:
Microgrid technology deployment is a core element of both the national effort to further sustainability and resiliency through the use of renewable energy and energy efficiency mechanisms as integral parts of the grid and increasing national security concern with grid security.

The use of microgrid technology is burgeoning on campuses, highly integrated industrial and government facilities and urban buildings, in many cases in conjunction with the fast-growing deployment of electric storage and other data integration management devices. Increasing attention is now being given to different techniques for resource efficiency finance applications.
Its potential social benefits in community energy, in facilitating smart urban system management, and in remote international locations are all being actively explored and developed.

The feasibility of microgrid finance by both electric utilities and independent developers draws upon and may, in different settings, require modification of now-traditional constructs and forms of regulation.

Lawyers are called upon both to deal with the disruptive adjustments which microgrid use will entail and the challenges which its financing presents for those deploying or accommodating microgrids. They also must deal with the environmental and siting ramifications of the addition and integration of microgrid and storage to the configurations of numerous types of facilities.
The expert Panel will examine the Federal, state and local legal issues in the both the regulation of microgrid deployment and related to the public and private finance of microgrid installations.
