Effective July 11, 2014, Medicare Conditions of Participation authorize any hospital system to unify medical staffs, permitting a single medical staff spanning an unlimited number of hospitals. This program will provide an overview of the many issues created by the new Medicare Conditions of Participation as well as cover many of the new requirements for establishing unified hospital medical staffs, including:
- What must be included in Medical staff bylaws under the new regulations?
- Where systems cross state lines, will members of the unified medical staff be forced to be licensed in the state where the medical staff is located?
- What state’s peer review law will protect the unified staff’s activities?
- Even where the unified medical staff operates in a single state, how can it adequately account for the quality of patient care in a variety of hospital settings?
