How to Avoid Wasting Fifteen Minutes a Day and Earn More If you spend $59.95 on this book (and read it!), the authors promise you’ll annually recoup $3,750 in billable time. How will you recoup this amount? By following the authors’ productivity tips you will save fifteen minutes every day and recapture this lost time as billable time. The tips are wide-ranging. Some are very broad and others very specific. The broad tips range from how to set goals and prioritize, to how to eliminate distractions. One specific tip that I really liked is to temporarily arranging your inbox by “From” instead of “Date” so you can view all messages from one sender at a time and delete any of their unnecessary messages in a batch (or move them into their appropriate client files). The Google search tips are great and I use most of them. They will help speed up your searching. But, be aware that Google does change its search functions from time to time, so the tip to place a tilde before a word (~car) to indicate that you want your results to include synonyms no longer is supported by Google. (Google now claims that its results automatically retrieve synonyms.) Each chapter ends with “Action Steps” to help you implement the chapter suggestions. For example, one of the Action Steps suggested in Chapter 8, “Creating Systems for Your Practice” is to list major components of billable work and non-billable work (such as marketing, business development, and client acquisition) and then request that every person responsible for the major component to write down the steps involved. Eventually you will have procedures and checklists—in other words, an entire system for your practice. I highly recommend this book. It’s easy to read and will motivate you to take steps to become more organized and productive.
